Homeward Bound
well, I'm just coming to the end of my first PGCE teaching placement. Its gone well, all in all, and I've learned a lot, but could really do with the break. It seems that teachers really need those holidays - my stress and exhaustion have just been building up constantly over the past few weeks, and I'll be really glad of the break.

Anyway, myself and Sarah are heading back to Ireland on Sunday. Hooray!!!
Also, I have been starved of non-LRP gaming recently. I hope to remedy this over the holidays.

Vaticon LRP thanks.
Hey all,

I'd like to thank everyone again who helped out with the game, monstering, playing, reffing, loaning kit, doing safety briefs, and everything else. It seemed like everyone had fun, and it was a great success. I've noted some imbalances for later work (like the Command call, which was a bit sick once players figured out how to use it), and had great enthusiasm frothed at me from various quarters, so hopefully we will see this system again. So huge thanks to everyone who came along for being brilliant, and to the monsters and refs especially for being so awesome and keeping me sane through the whole thing.

Vaticon LRP needs monsters!
Hey all,

Just a reminder that the Vaticon rubber sword LRP "Into the Shadowed Vortex" is this weekend and needs your help! If anyone can come along and monster, bring kit or weapons, its would be hugely appreciated - and if you come monster, you get into the con free for Sunday! (The Con is in Ireland, so its fair if UK people can't come).

Glorious hidden extras
While randomly surfing through the extras on a Die Hard 4.0 DVD, myself and countess_dracul discovered this little gem.

Mutant Chronicles
So, where the hell did this come from????

Ah well, at least it was written by Mr Event Horizon. That's good, right?

Well, I had a great weekend, mostly with <lj user="countess_dracul") and her family. It involved a gaeltacht pub session, a sea safari, and a road trip to glendalough (minus the family). There should have been horseriding, but we were too late for it. Ah well. In other news, I went to tvtropes.org to occupy some time. This was a bad idea. I have a horrendous urge to link pretty much every definite object in this post to something else. Gah!

I passed! Victory!

(only just - I got 8 Grade 2 faults out a maximum permitted 8, but that doesn't matter now, woohoo!!)

Well, today I have another driving test.

Third time lucky, I suppose.

Wedding, and other weekend stuff.
Well, two weddings two weekends in a row. Wow.

Took just under 500 photos at word_maker and icklephantom's wedding. Weather was rubbish, but it was a great event regardless. The married coule were adorably cute, and the partying was long and hardcore.

In other news, my lack of sleep is catching up to me. I'm a really light sleeper, but recently this has gotten worse, and I don't think I've had more than 6 hours sleep a night for 2-3 weeks now. Its getting a bit grating. I just don't seem to be able to switch my brain off. Gah!

Driving Test
Failed again. Oh well. Not at all as badly this time though. 11 Grade 2 faults (Out of a maximum of 8), and no Grade 3 faults (which are the really bed ones that fail you instantly). Last time I had way more Grade 2s and 2 Grade 3s, so hopefully I'll get it the next time.

Most of my faults were in road position and reaction. I have a tendency to look right when I turn left and as a result pull right out into the other lane when turning left. I also have a tendency to come too close to parked cars and other obstacles. Things to work on I suppose.

Apparently, I'm a corrupter gamer. I revel in it. Take joy in watching people fall. Is that so wrong?

Well, sod.

Failed my driving test, through a number of observation and progress faults, and one massive "nearly pulling out into a truck" fault. Bah. Have applied for another.

Was good. Plenty of interesting plot, some mild intrigue, things to hit, and good food. Team "bardcore 2" stayed up until 4am solving a series of bloody puzzles to prove their superiority to those who put petty things like sleep over the accumulation of knowledge. Hah! I also got to rant a big bad to death. Which was nice.
Partially spoiled by bad weather resulting in a muddy site, and the site having too many nasty slopes than is entirely enjoyable. Drove back to the ferry with psysquid and we only got lost a few times. Lack of sleep and hilarious anecdotes may have also resulted in hysterics.

Driving test tomorrow morning. Spent three hours driving around Wicklow Town (my test centre) to get the lay of the land (got there by the time the Paddy's Day parade crowd was slowly dissapating - joy). As it turns out, the land consists mostly of small housing estates built from interconnecting cul-de-sacs, located on cliffs and containing suicidal children and drivers whose primary opinions on the Rules of the Road are that it is soft, absorbent and cheaper than Andrex. It is also badly signposted.

In Bruges
...was excellent. Way more than just a comedy. It was a surreal, well-acted masterpiece.

Many genuinely funny moments, and an incredible sense of completeness, as if everything was important and no time was wasted at all. A great film.

Looks like my brother got into Princeton for his MSE, with full funding and a teaching stipend.

Good for him, I suppose.
